The Rovos train launched on the 29th of April 1989, as a result of infused passions. A woman from Wilbur Smith that owned a railway coach, Phil Acutt with a passion for trains, and Rohan Vos with an auto business, came together to form the iconic Rovos Rail. Cutting across landscapes has since been in motion and is experienced by tourists from all walks of life present day.
The Journeys
Lasting anywhere between 48 hours and 15 days, Rovos Rail presents scenic destinations in the finest luxury travel package. Departing from Pretoria fondly referred to as The Jacaranda City, the train cuts north towards Warmbaths (Bela-Bela). Heading towards the 2nd Capital of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo; the train continues to travel across the long stretch towards Hwange National Park. This destination is appreciated for the wildlife experiences in the form of a game drive. The train continues to the Majestic Victoria Falls. Many choose to stay at the luxurious Victoria Falls Hotel as the train arrives right at the hotel’s doorstep.
The Experience
Built of 4 trains, the Rovos Rail houses luxurious specifics in each train. The open balcony design of each train makes the landscape scenes tangible. The infusion of historic and modern pieces presents a time-travel illusion infused with modernity. One can either inhale the perceived 1920s nostalgia when in the presence of teak pillars and traditional windows that make for breathtaking views.
